Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center
Discover tranquility with a silent hike into Texas Hill Country's stunning Grotto at Westcave. Perfect for reflection and nature enthusiasts.
Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center protects and presents a nature preserve in the Texas Hill Country near Round Mountain, Texas. The Center operates a mix of self-guided and guided offerings that highlight the preserve’s unique geology, native plants, and wildlife.
Programs include the ADA-friendly Westcave Uplands trail, guided canyon tours that descend a 100-foot staircase into a limestone crevice to a 40-foot waterfall and grotto, guided photography hikes, night hikes, silent and meditative hikes, star parties, homeschool field days, seasonal archery sessions, and retreat services at an award-winning Environmental Learning Center.
Trained naturalists and certified instructors lead interpretive programs focused on conservation, safety, and hands-on learning. Group-size limits on select experiences — for example, a maximum of 25 guests on the guided canyon tour — help protect sensitive habitat while preserving an intimate visitor experience. The Environmental Learning Center provides sustainable meeting and retreat space with scenic views and opportunities to combine group gatherings with guided nature activities.
Educational outreach emphasizes stewardship, natural history, and accessible ways to engage with the preserve. Programs designed for families, homeschool groups, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts expand the ways visitors can explore the site. Advance reservations are recommended for popular guided hikes and special events; book online.
