To get to know better the remarkable Pico Island Vineyard Culture, it is suggested to visit the “Lajidos” of “Criação Velha” and “Santa Luzia” for this pedestrian route on trails of the vineyards. Along the way, you will find typical local buildings comprising of cellars, stone walls and lava soil pyramids that support and protect the vineyards near the sea.
The Landscape reflect the people`s “ability” for survival in the struggle for his livelihood.
The itinerary includes a visit to the Wine Museum, located in an Old Carmelite Convent House. The Museum, Which has an interesting viewpoint with a privileged view of the neighboring Island of Faial, presents and keeps different buildings containing the structures, devices and utensils necessary for the producion of typical wine and spirits.
The Museum has a tradicional vineyard and a valuable “collection” of century-old “Dragoeiros”, a specie of flora endemic to Macaronesia.
