About

Book a private, custom Maui adventure of a lifetime in a 2023 Convertible Ford Bronco similar and some would say even better than a Jeep. The most sought-after experience is our reverse Road to Hana Loop (when road conditions allow), but our tours are fully customizable to experience special locations across the island of Maui.

Our guides are students of Hawaiian cultural practitioners and are committed to operating pono (doing what is right). We are honored and prepared to share mo'olelo (stories), history, and ike (knowledge) about Hawaiian culture.

Some of our guests' favorite spots are special waterfalls, red and black sand beaches, and delicious beachside local huli huli chicken.

Itinerary

Every day on Maui is a new adventure and our guides love sharing their favorite stops along the Road to Hana. No two tours are the same. We call that the Maui Magic!

Here are some of the popular (and not so known) stops you might experience on the Road to Hana Tour with Journey Jill Tour Guides.

Paia Town Charming town with historical significance and a great stop for fresh Hawaiian coffee and pastries before heading out, or a quick visit through Mana Foods, our favorite local grocery store.

Ke’anae Arboretum The Ke’anae Arboretum is a botanical garden that showcases a diverse collection of native Hawaiian plants and tropical species from around the world.

Bamboo Forest and Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees Drive by the miles of bamboo forest and experience the magic of the rainbow eucalyptus trees along the road to Hana.

Black Sand Beach There are a number of black sand beaches and we know some secret ones. We’ll take you to the perfect one for the conditions on the day of your tour. If you would like to go to Wai’anapanapa State Park, reservations are required so please request when you book.

Waterfalls There are a number of waterfalls along the Road to Hana. Depending on the weather and water levels for the day, we’ll find the perfect waterfalls for your tour!

Pua’a Ka’a State Park This roadside park has some shaded areas and trails to explore, leading to refreshing waterfall pools.

Nahiku Marketplace Local food, snacks, coffee, and a gallery gift store featuring the work of over 40 local artists.

Hana Town General Store, Food Trucks, and a farmers market on Fridays.

Huli Huli Chicken Huli Huli Chicken, featured on Gordon Ramsay’s “Uncharted,” is a Hawaiian dish known for its sweet, savory, and tangy marinated chicken, grilled and frequently turned for a caramelized glaze, exemplifying the local culinary culture. Huli means to turn over in Hawaiian and it is flipped back and forth over local kiawe (mesquite) wood.

Koki Beach You’ll find the best Huli Huli chicken at Koki Beach. On the way to Koki beach, we’ll pass by a vibrant red sand beach and dramatic cliffs, a quieter alternative to popular beaches.

Lava Tubes Explore underground lava tubes formed by ancient volcanic activity, offering a unique perspective on Maui’s geology. There is a big lava tube that most tours go to, but we know of a couple lesser traveled lava tubes that we are sure you’ll love!

Farm Stands Sample fresh fruits, snacks, and homemade goods at charming roadside stands along the way. If you see something that looks yummy or you just want to try, be sure to tell your guide!

Coconut Glen’s Indulge in organic vegan coconut ice cream at this roadside stand known for its delicious and refreshing treats.

Ke’anae Peninsula Visit ancient lava rock formations, taro fields, and the Ke’anae Congregational Church. This is where you’ll also find the famous Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread stand. There’s a miniature horse named George who lives nearby and you might get a chance to see him if you’re lucky.

Wailua Valley State Wayside We may stop here for panoramic views of Wailua Valley and its taro patches, with glimpses of the coastline. Tip: ask your guide to show you the “sleeping grass” which goes to sleep when you touch it.

Turtle Beach Stop for views of world-class surfing and see Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu).
