Marlborough started the modern New Zealand wine revolution in the 1970’s with new methods of producing exquisite Sauvignon Blanc, among other varieties, with techniques being adopted from the dairy industries refrigeration technologies. This led to confidence that New Zealand could in-fact produce interesting wine.
Today, Marlborough represents 80% total vineyard area in New Zealand. The contrast between hot sunny days and cool nights helps extend the ripening period more so here than anywhere else in New Zealand.
