Join the comprehensive Concealed Handgun Permit course at Magnum South, where you'll blend classroom learning with hands-on shooting practice. This 8-hour class covers firearm safety, legal issues, and shooting fundamentals, ensuring you meet Colorado's requirements for your CHP. Gain confidence and skills for responsible firearm carry and personal protection.

NOTE: You must be familiar with handgun safety / handling fundamentals, loading, and basic live fire experience. If you are uncertain of your skill level, "Firearm Fundamentals" (HG101) is a great foundation and highly recommended, or you can contact us with any questions. Students must demonstrate handgun proficiency by successfully completing a prescribed course of fire.

Description

This class meets all Colorado training requirements in HB24-1174 to apply for your concealed handgun permit. A written concealed handgun competency exam and live-fire shooting exercise will be administered and must be passed in order to obtain your CHP certificate. The Concealed Handgun Permit course offers a comprehensive blend of classroom learning and hands-on range experience, equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed for responsible firearm carry and personal protection. Designed for both experienced individuals and those relatively new to firearms, this course provides thorough, hands-on instruction. You'll build a solid foundation in firearm safety, maintenance, types of firearms, ammunition, and the fundamentals of shooting. Additionally, we cover legal issues related to concealed carry and the use of force. Both classroom instruction and live-fire exercises are included. Range time includes 50 rounds shot for practice before the required 50 rounds for the live-fire CHP exercise. Upon completion, you will meet the legal requirements to apply for a Concealed Handgun Permit through your county.

The required elements of the Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) course:

  1. Knowledge and Safe Handling of Firearms and Ammunition
  2. Safe Storage of Firearms and Child Safety
  3. Safe Firearms Shooting Fundamentals
  4. Federal and State Laws Pertaining to the Lawful Purchase, Ownership, Transportation, Use, and Possession of Firearms
  5. Extreme Risk Protection Orders
  6. Requirements for Reporting Lost or Stolen Firearms
  7. Requirements for Secure Firearms Storage
  8. State Laws Pertaining to the Use of Deadly Force for Self-Defense
  9. Instruction on Any Other State Law enacted within 5 years before the class that pertains to the purchase, ownership, transportation, use, and possession of firearms
  10. Best Practices to Ensure Concealed Handgun Permit Holders Safely Interact with Law Enforcement Personnel who are responding to an emergency
  11. Instruction Regarding Techniques for Avoiding a Criminal Attack and How to Manage a Violent Confrontation, including conflict resolution and judgmental use of lethal force
  12. Students must complete a live-fire exercise on a range, discharging at least 50 rounds with a minimum 70% accuracy score
  13. Students must complete a written Concealed Handgun Competency exam which tests a student’s knowledge of the subjects with a minimum score of 80%

*Firearms, eye protection, ear protection, and ammo are all available for purchase at Magnum Shooting Center, as well as firearm rental. If you are renting a firearm/need to purchase items for class, please arrive 15 minutes prior to class start time. Anyone is unable to arrive 5 minutes past the hour will be required to reschedule. You Must Be 21 years old to rent a handgun unless you are with a parent or legal guardian. All classroom attendees must be over the age of Twenty.
