Declared a World Heritage Site, Monte Albán was one of the most important cities in ancient Mesoamerica. During its peak, the majestic city of Monte Albán housed 35,000 people. Monte Albán is Oaxaca´s best example of an urban center with a large central plaza. This tour lasts approximately four hours. Monte Albán is the biggest and most visited archaeological site in Oaxaca, receiving 700,000 visitors per year.

Itinerary

  • We will meet at Casa de las Bugambilias B&B or the front desk of your hotel, from where we will drive to the archaeological site, which is approximately 30 minutes (6.5 miles) from downtown Oaxaca.
  • We will start the tour at the on-site museum, which will give you an excellent introduction to what we will see at the archaeological site.
  • We will continue the tour at the “North Platform,” the “Great Plaza,” the “Los Danzantes” Building, the “Observatory,” and the “Main Shrine,” ending the tour at the “Ball Court.”
