Setting off from Dublin, we’ll head west to the lush and green County Laois, where we’ll discover the Rock of Dunamase. This stunning rocky outcrop holds the ruins of the 12th Century Dunamase Castle. You’ll get to enjoy more than a piece of Anglo-Norman history but also beautiful panoramic views of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. From there, it isn’t such a “long way to Tipperary”. Heading southwest to this famed County, which is part of the Golden Vale, we’ll visit the Rock of Cashel, the high king of Irish monuments. This fortress has an almost mythical history and is linked to the exploits of St. Patrick. Moving on from Cashel, we’ll head further south to Banteer in County Cork, the site of Kanturk Castle, a fortified house built to fend off English settlers at the turn of the 17th Century. We’ll end our historical journey with a short drive to Killarney in County Kerry.
