Visit the amazing Pyrenees medieval mountain village and hike through panoramic trails to a gorgeous waterfall.
Nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains just north of Barcelona are numerous charming medieval villages with stone houses and cafes built directly into the rock of the mountainsides. These Pyrenees villages have been amazingly well preserved and are found in the middle of very privileged hiking and walking routes. Far from busy Barcelona, the loudest sounds you will hear on these small group adventures are streams, rivers, waterfalls and the occasional sheep, cow, bull or goose.
Year-round, hot or cold, rainy or sunny, our Medieval Mountain Villages day trips from Barcelona have been one of our biggest successes for both small groups and private tours since 2001. This is a day of great mountains, excellent views, amazing history, and an optional superb three-course restaurant lunch in a traditional Catalan country restaurant. After a short drive from bustling Barcelona, you will begin your day trip by exploring a village’s winding cobblestone streets and stone houses dating back more than 500 years. You will find unique photo opportunities at every turn, as these villages are authentic communities where life goes on around you as explore.
Following coffee or tea and local pastry delicacies at one of the town café (optional breakfast), your guide will take you through the streets of this medieval town for yet another fantastic history lesson and plenty of great photos. We duck out of the village for a light hike through wooded trails and cliff-top lookouts, streams, rivers, waterfalls, and spectacular views of deep river canyons and forested valleys. Non-hikers can relax on a river-view terrace and enjoy the sun, beverages, and a book until the others return. The fantastic, leisurely (optional) lunch in a traditional Catalan restaurant provides the perfect touch to these culture-adventure day excursions before returning to Barcelona.
Important: There would be a surcharge/ person if you end up being only two clients on any non-private tour.
