Der Süden Hamms war ursprünglich ein niedriges, sehr feuchtes, sumpfiges Marschland. Erstmalig erschlossen wurde das Gebiet für Landsitze. Heute ist es geprägt von Wohnbauten aus den 1920er Jahren und der Nachkriegszeit.

Außerdem zeugen Wohnbauten von einer neuen Entwicklung: die Hanse-Terrassen, die Osterbrookhöfe sowie das geplante Sportzentrum Aschbergbad, womit das sehr beliebte Freibad Geschichte ist. Wir sehen auch Kleingärten an der Bille, Hausboote, die ehemalige Papierfabrik „Hansa-Burg“, die „Hallenhäuser“, das Störtebeker Haus mit seiner „Siegessäule“ sowie den Löschplatz an der Bille.
