About This Adventure

Embark on a captivating 4.5 to 5-hour journey through the enchanting landscapes of São Miguel. Explore the volcanic crater of Furnas, witness natural hot springs, and savor traditional Cozido stew. Visit a tea plantation for a taste of local brews, all while enjoying breathtaking coastal views and rich island history.

Itinerary

  • Pick up at the Seapier where your ship ataches. Drive towards Furnas area from the South coast. Our first stop is at the Caloura viewpoint to see the South coast and a natural swimming pool in the Ocean. Then we will drive through Vila Franca do Campo town (the first capital of the island, before the earthquake in 1522) to get closer to Furnas area. We will drive down to or in the crater of Furnas passing and seeing the Furnas Lake. Our second stop is at Caldeiras (entrance fee not included) at the Furnas Lake area, where there is hot springs/furmaroles, more known for the place where they make the Traditional Cozido das Furnas stew, that is done underneath the hot ground. Then we will drive to Furnas village, and stop at Caldeiras in the village, where there is the main hot springs and thermal water springs.
  • Then we will drive towards the ship, but on the North coast, up and out of the crater of Furnas to the viewpoint to see all of the Furnas Volcanic Crater (lake and village) called Pico do Ferro. From there we will drive to the Tea Plantation/Factory Gorreana (see the tea plantation fields, factory with a explanation of how green and black tea is produced, and finish with a free taste of green and black tea). Then we will drive to the viewpoint called Miradouro de Santa Iria to see the North coast, and after that it will be time to go back to your cruise ship.

Note: Sao Miguel island weather may affect this itinerary and alternate sites may be visited if necessary.
