Class Procedures

  • The NRA Pistol Instructor course teaches instructor candidates the “NRA Way”, which includes the Basic Instructor Training (known as “BIT”). After studying the NRA’s policies and procedures, attendees will begin with the terminology of both revolvers and auto-loading handguns. The next lesson covers ammunition. Then, they will study how to teach the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship, including aiming, hold control, breath control, trigger control, and follow-through.
  • On day two of the training session, the class will start with a written test requiring a 90% successful completion. Then the instructor candidates will practice their assigned presentations.
  • After lunch, the class will transition to Iron Mike's and meet the novices who will be their students.
  • The instructor candidates will give their presentation and be evaluated by the students. Then, the instructor candidates will be teamed up with novice students to teach them the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship
  • They will proceed to the range, and their live-fire skills will prove the success of the instructor candidate’s ability to communicate the fundamentals to the new students in a very practical teaching session. The course will conclude with feedback from the students about the skills of their instructors.
