Join Shurr Adventures rated Number #1 on Trip Advisor for a Yellowstone Kayaking Eco-Tour paddling past the West Thumb and Potts Geyser basins on our stable, comfortable and high end kayaks! Our tours do not consist of 15 to 20 people in a group, we offer the smallest group size (6 people) on the lake for a more personalized and enjoyable tour. Paddling amongst and over the thermal features on Yellowstone Lake is truly special! Kayak with our naturalist guides and learn about Yellowstone Lake, its surrounding wildlife, and the geological history that shaped the lake and its ecosystems. This tour will help give our guests a broader view of the lake area and the southern/central part of Yellowstone National Park.
This is an excellent way to see these natural geothermal wonders up close and personal, without having to trudge through a crowded boardwalk! These high altitude lakes are also a good water source for a variety of birds, elk, deer, and once in a great while a bear! We will be on the lookout for these animals as we kayak! This is truly an unbeatable experience!
This trip meets at the Grant Village Marina (reservations required).

The distance we cover seeing both geyser basins and time on the water is the “sweet spot” and the optimal time to avoid getting caught in the daily high winds producing whitecaps and possible afternoon thunderstorms on the way back or for our guest to be too exhausted at the end of their adventure. Upon arriving back to shore our guests can walk five minutes or make a short drive to the famous Grant Village Dining Room for a great meal and an amazing Lake Yellowstone view!
Sunset Trip Information Our sunset tour is the same amount of time and distance as the morning trip. Our meeting time in the evening is when the lake winds and chop usually calm down. There is nothing like paddling with a painted sky and a sunset on the way back. On our sunset tour the sun illuminates the thermal features and shoreline for amazing photos.
Minimum of 2 people needed to make a reservation
Minimum Age: 7 (Children under 14 must be in a double kayak with an adult)
Should I Choose a single or Double Kayak? Please remember that these kayak tours are on cold, high altitude lakes. The conditions can be calm and super clear on some days, or choppy and more adventurous on others. Double kayaks with rudders are great for inexperienced kayakers or people that are worried about getting tired on this tour which happens to a lot of people in single kayaks due to the daily winds and 5 miles of paddling.
We don't offer trips in the middle of the day from 2 to 5 because of the strong and potentially dangerous afternoon winds, plus it makes it harder to see the underwater features, and cancellation due to weather is more likely. The morning and sunset tours are the best times for less wind, with morning being the most reliable weather daily and the winds usually calm down before the sunset tour starts.
Cancellation Policy: 24 hours before trip’s date for a full refund. If the trip is canceled due to the weather we will issue a full refund or we can try to reschedule if possible and our guests are able.
