Requirements

  • Arrive at Lajitas Stables 30 minutes before your ride time to get checked in
  • Min Age: 12 Years Old.
  • Max Weight: 250 lbs
  • Athleticism and the ability to mount horse by yourself with no assistance. The trails can be steep and are very rocky, and the horse is balancing itself with you on its back!
  • You MUST be able to mount the horse or mule by yourself with no assistance
  • Each rider must be comfortable & confident enough to control their horse or mule up & down the mountain
  • 2-3 Liters of water in handheld bottles per rider

About

  • This ride has no shade, be prepared!
  • For riders who have more experience in the saddle and/or have a big sense of adventure!!
  • Ride climbs up to around 500 feet above the stables on rugged & technical trails. These trails are more physically demanding of the rider, considered adventurous & scenic. Parts of the trail ride along the edge of cliffs.
  • Not for folks with a fear of heights or who are nervous about riding.
  • Climb up Contrabando Mesa. Leave everything behind and enter a world of breathtaking vistas and silence. To the South, we look across to the ruggedly wild mountains of Old Mexico.
  • We ride horses & mules!
  • Your wranglers work for tips, so if you like your ride, kiss your horse and be sure to tip your guide!
