You step onto a shaded path and the canyon narrows: Rio Blanco’s clear water hurries past your boots, darting around boulders and under a green roof of fig and heliconia. Bird calls puncture the steady hiss of the river as your guide points out a distant flash of white-faced capuchin in the canopy. The canyon tightens into a stone gorge; small waterfalls thread through mossy ledges until the roar of La Leona fills the air.
