The speedboat cuts a clean wake across the mirror of the Bay of Kotor, the limestone cliffs and old stone towns sliding past like scenes in a slow film. Salt and diesel mix in the air; gulls wheel and cry as the captain throttles for a bright fissure in the rock where a shaft of sunlight turns seawater cobalt. You step off for a half-hour in the Blue Cave, the water pressing cool and brilliant around your waist as fish scatter and the cave seems to breathe light back at you.
