A thin, cold light filters through the Nordic pines as the minivan leaves Rovaniemi; within an hour and a half the forest swallows the road and the canyon appears — a long crack in the earth framed by sheer cliffs. You move on foot through a 3 km loop at Korouoma, where cliffs over 100 metres high loom like patient northern guards and wind-carved ice aligns the canyon in winter. The guide sets up camera angles while explaining composition; the landscape obliges with dramatic lines and wide, open skies.
