You step onto the low-slung deck at the Knysna Waterfront, salt on your lips and a cool wind already testing the rigging. The lagoon opens like a slow-breathing inlet behind you, and ahead the Knysna Heads pinch the water into a narrow throat — the sea daring you to pass. Over the next 90 minutes the boat slips through glassy lagoon water and, when conditions allow, threads between the headlands into the Atlantic swell, sails filling and the skipper reading tide, wind and swell.
