Morning fog lifts off Lake Batur as you clip into your pedals at Kintamani, the caldera rim opening to a wide sweep of volcanic slopes and emerald rice fields. The ride begins with a light meal and a viewpoint over Gunung Batur: black lava scars, the green bowl of the caldera, and a lake that still steams in places.
moderate.
5–6 hours.
Suitable for riders who can cycle continuously for 2–4 hours and handle sustained descents; basic endurance and balance required.
Yes—standard hybrid or mountain bikes and helmets are supplied; guides will adjust fit before departure.
Families with older, confident child riders can join, but very young children or inexperienced cyclists may find descents challenging.
Lunch and some refreshments (like fresh coconut) are included, but bring small cash for snacks or souvenirs in villages.
Private transportation with air conditioning is included; confirm pickup point when booking as options vary by hotel location.
Gunung Batur sits within a large volcanic caldera formed by massive eruptions; volcanic ash has long supported intensive wet-rice agriculture and local temple traditions around the lake.
Stick to marked lanes, avoid trampling terraces, and minimize single-use plastics; supporting local guides helps distribute tourism income into village communities.
