The walkway meets safety standards and is supervised, but it is exposed; guests with a fear of heights or very young children should consider skipping it.
Standard travel vaccinations are recommended; permits or park fees for chimp trekking and canopy access are usually included by tour operators—confirm before booking.
Nyungwe sits on the Albertine Rift and was established as a national park in the early 2000s to protect one of East Africa’s oldest montane rainforests and its endemic species.
Conservation relies on controlled visitor access, local guide employment, and community projects near park boundaries; visitors are asked to stay on trails and avoid feeding wildlife.
