About This Adventure

Join the Kids Surf Club, a thrilling program for young surfers aged 7-16, designed to enhance their skills in a supportive environment. With expert guidance and hands-on assistance, participants will navigate waves and refine their techniques, all while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow surf enthusiasts. Perfect for those ready to advance!

About Kids Surf Club

The “Next-Step” program for students ages 7-16.

The club meets on Saturdays throughout the summer and into September. Come to as many sessions as you can, and take advantage of discounted packages when you purchase 4 or 8 sessions at a time.

These 1hr and 30min guided surf sessions are for experienced young surfers looking to progress their skills in a more independent setting. Perfect for kids who have learned the basics and have begun to try to catch waves on their own. This Club is the “next-step” between Kids Surf Camp and the competitive Grom Team program.

What to expect:

Instructors & Counselors use verbal cues to guide students entering, navigating, and selecting waves in a surf lineup with other "next step" students.

Students receive feedback on wave selection, technique, equipment choices, and more.

Students receive hands-on assistance when they are struggling, but the foucs is on developing independent surf skills and experience.

  • Can perform the four P's, from home position to pop up
  • Can independently paddle out past the breaking waves to the lineup
  • Have started to attempt to catch waves without assistance, and with an instructor's help can consistently get to their feet and ride to the beach
  • Are interested in advancing specific skills
  • Note: Many club participants have have been recommended to the club through their performance at Kids Surf Camp or with Private Lessons. If you are unsure if your surfer is ready, please consult one of our staff members.

About Summertime Surf School

Since 2006, Summertime's community-supported programs have earned the reputation as New Jersey's #1 surf school. By combining positive role models, creative original programming, small student groups, and the ultimate classroom (our beach & ocean), Summertime Surf School is the East Coast’s premier place to get started and stay involved with the surf lifestyle.

Safety Values & Practices

"⛑️ a healthy surfer is a happy surfer! 😀"

  • All aspects of our program have been designed with safety as the top priority.
  • All Summertime Instructors are certified lifesavers trained in CPR and First Aid.
  • Staff works with the local lifeguards and first aid squads to further ensure the safety of our students and staff.
  • We plan and prepare all staffing needs to maintain student to instructor ratios based on years of program development. Please note that ratios guides are shared NOT as a guarantee, but rather to help understand how we plan for a standard day of programming. In some instances, ratios may vary.

##Program Ratio Guide

  • 5:1 student to instructor ratio for "next-step" programs

  • 4:1 ratio for beginner programs

  • 3:1 ratio for programs for students 6 yrs and under

  • 2:1 or 1:1 ratio for private lessons

  • Most common surfing conditions allow for students to spend the majority of their program time in the water, but during less favorable conditions, group programming may need to take turns in and out of the ocean in the best interest of safety.

  • We are prepared for emergencies and have dealt with injuries, both serious and minor, effectively in the past. A tent/canopy acts as our home base, where students can enjoy shelter from the sun. All of our equipment is inspected daily for potential hazards and we provide only beginner-friendly surfboards.

  • A waiver must be signed prior to the start of any program due to the inherent risks of surfing and other activities that our programs provide. That being said, we would like to assure you that we have carefully chosen a team of responsible adults and young adults to provide the best experience possible for you or your child. We realize that there will be bumps, breaks, bruises, cuts, scrapes, and possibly a few tears shed, but we will work with you and your loved ones to make sure that their experience is one that they walk away from smiling. 🌊 ✌️ 😊
