A cool coastal rain wraps the windshield as you roll away from Ketchikan, the town’s pilings and ferry horns shrinking behind you. Forty minutes later the road ends and the forest takes over — a shallow valley carved by a creek that dares you forward. The trail begins with a few wooden stairs, then settles onto compacted gravel that follows a river’s steady voice, offering glimpses of small waterfalls and the slow curve of a bow in the water where a weathered stone bench waits.
