You lift out of Redhill Aerodrome and the familiar grid of fields and villages shrinks beneath the rotors. In twenty-five minutes the Kent countryside unrolls: Tudor roofs, parkland ridgelines and the chalk ribs of the North Downs. From the cabin you can pick out Hever Castle’s moated outline, the compact medieval footprint of Ightham Mote, and the broad lawns of Chartwell as the helicopter arcs east and then returns toward Gatwick.
