Rockhounds will find plenty of opportunities for rock collecting and gold panning in Colorado. Precious gems, semi-precious gems and various metals can be found throughout the state. In particular, many streams on the Front Range wash gold dust and occasional gold nuggets down from rugged glacier-carved slopes.

The best way to learn about panning for gold is to observe the techniques of our experienced panners. You learn techniques to wash the lighter, less valuable material away and get the heavy gold particles to settle to the bottom of your pan by working with the material.
Practice panning with real ore and mineral specimens and best of all keep what you find and you will find ore!
You’ll be working with water and sediment, so sturdy shoes or boots that can get wet and muddy are best.
