Float through crystal-clear spring water while spotting manatees and ospreys at Salt Springs Run Marina in Florida. A perfect paddle for wildlife lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Salt Springs Run Marina operates at Salt Springs, Florida, a gateway to one of the region’s clearest freshwater springs and a launch point for paddlers eager to experience the natural rhythms of the Floridian wilderness. Located in northeastern Marion County, Salt Springs feeds a glassy waterway where kayakers and boaters come face-to-face with the local ecosystem — including the seasonal appearances of Florida manatees. This area is a standout for anyone looking to paddle in serene, spring-fed water and watch wildlife that is uncommon in more crowded spots.
At the marina, visitors can rent kayaks or launch their own boats into the run for a paddle upstream or downstream. The water maintains a steady temperature year-round, creating an inviting refuge especially in colder months when manatees migrate into the warmer currents. It’s not unusual for paddlers to spot a dozen or more manatees within a single outing, making this one of the best local sites to watch these gentle giants as they glide below the surface.
The run itself offers a relatively calm paddle suitable for all skill levels, dotted with birds like ospreys hunting overhead and occasional turtles sunning themselves on logs or near the banks. The access fee per vehicle helps maintain this popular spot, which can get busy on weekends but rewards early arrivals with quieter stretches and shallow shoreline areas perfect for quick stops or wading.
The marina’s staff are known for their welcoming attitude, lending assistance when needed and sharing tips on where the wildlife tends to congregate. Facilities are basic but functional, ensuring paddlers can comfortably prepare for their time on the water. For anyone visiting Marion County looking to connect with Florida’s unique spring environment and friendly marina culture, Salt Springs Run Marina offers a genuine gateway experience.
