A cold Atlantic wind pushes low over Castle Beach as the group straps helmets and steps into sit-on-top kayaks. From the sand, the town's pastel-fronted houses watch like an audience; the sea invites and warns in the same breath. Paddles slice glassy shallows toward North Beach, then past towering cliffs that throw back the surf and the cries of gulls.

This stretch of Pembrokeshire is carved from Devonian sandstones and shales — Old Red Sandstone cliffs with caves and stacks cut by relentless waves. St Catherine's Island, crowned by a Victorian fort, stands like an island watchman; local guides weave in notes about Tenby’s medieval walls, smuggling-era stories and the fishing heritage that still shapes the harbor.
Wildlife often punctuates the trip: grey seals bob, cormorants dry wings on rocks, and in calm bays you may glimpse foraging flatfish beneath clear water. Guides hold the highest sea‑kayaking qualifications and bring pragmatic local knowledge: tide windows, safe lines past Monkstone Point, and which coves make reliable lunch stops.
Practical guidance is straightforward — meet at the operator’s Castle Beach HQ, expect a 2–3 hour guided paddle, and be prepared for wind and spray. Helmets and sit‑on‑top kayaks are provided; wetsuits or cagoules depend on weather. Hydrate, seal valuables in a drybag, and pick a slot that lines up with the tidal forecast; the sea here can be playful or insistent, and reading it makes the difference between a relaxed exploration and a serious workout.
