About

Rent a kayak and enjoy kayaking along the world famous San Antonio River Walk as it winds through Downtown San Antonio! This is a wonderful easy 3.25 mile flat-water kayak trip which is great for beginner kayakers and families.

  • Being able to kayak on this section of the San Antonio Riverwalk is a VERY RARE experience. We have been granted access to this section of the San Antonio River for 6 weeks during the summer this year.

  • Space is EXTREMELY LIMITED!!! The maximum number of rental kayaks launched each morning is 40. Each reservations is set for a 15 minute launch window and launch times are spread out over a 1 hour period. This ensure there is not a crowd at the launch site! Once these numbers have been reached reservations for that day will be closed.

Kayak Rental Price includes: Kayaks, Paddles, Life Vests (parking NOT included)

  • Children ages 6 thru 12 must be in a tandem kayak with their parent. No children under 6 are allowed.*

IMPORTANT INFO: (please read this entirely before booking!)

  • This is NOT a guided tour! This mean you will be able to enjoy kayaking on the SA Riverwalk at your own pace for up to 2-hours. -Rental times are 1:00 thru 2:45pm ONLY. No one will be allowed to check-in after 2:45pm. (No exceptions. If you show up after 2:45pm you will not be allowed to kayak and no refund will be given)
  • Kayaks are allowed on the riverwalk from 1:00pm-4:45pm. Everyone has to be off the river at 4:45.
  • Online reservations are required and reservations are limited to 40 people each day.
  • No children under the age of 6 are allowed. If you show up with a child under 6 you will be turned away an no refund will be given. Children 6-12 must be in a tandem (2-person) kayak with an adult. Children 13 and older can be in their own kayaks. (THIS IS FOR THE CHILD'S SAFETY!!! The river maintenance barges are operating and children are not as capable of maneuvering their kayaks well enough to get out of the way of the barges nor are they able to truly comprehend the dangers of not getting out of the way of the maintenance barges. Because of this the City of San Antonio, San Antonio River Authority and Mission Kayak are adamant about the age restrictions and will NOT waive the age restriction under any circumstances.)
  • Parking is NOT included in the price of the rental. Parking can be tricky downtown, luckily there are a number of city and privately owned parking garages close to Go Rio Ticket Booth - Historia. This is also the ticket booth that you will check-in at.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled rental so that you can sign waivers and be fitted for your life jacket!!! Make sure you factor in the drive time, time it will take to find parking, and the walk from the parking lot to the Go Rio Ticket Booth - Historia. If you are not on time we will NOT hold the kayaks for for you and the kayaks could be given to someone else who IS on time! If this happens you will NOT receive a refund for being late...
  • No beer or alcohol are allowed while kayaking. If you chose to break this rule the SA Police, in their motor boats, will arrest you for a BWI (Boating while intoxicated) and its as expensive and has the same consequences as a DWI!
  • Once you are seated in the kayak you are not permitted to get out of the kayak until you are done with your rental and are back at the rental dock. This means that you CANNOT dock the kayak along the riverwalk and get out to go shopping, have breakfast/lunch, have a drink, or any other land based activity. (These activities can be done once your kayak rental is finished).
  • We have a limited number of 2 person kayaks (Tandem kayaks). If you need a tandem kayak we suggest you book early.
  • City maintenance barges may be present on the river. If they are you MUST move to the side of the river (against the concrete walls of the river) and allow the barge to pass. This is for your safety... kayaks are hard to see and the barges are NOT easily maneuvered. So the right-of-way aways goes to the barges.
  • You must wear a lifejacket (PFD) at all times and it must be securely buckled the entire time you are in the kayak. The use of a life Mission Kayak lifejacket (PFD) is included in the rental price. If you have your own coastguard approved lifejacket (PFD) feel free to bring it and use it. The river police will ticket you and escort you back to the dock if you do not have your lifejacket (PFD) on and buckled. Tickets are expensive!!
  • This rental will be canceled if winds reach gusts of 15 mph or higher (which is rare but happens). If the rental is canceled we will send you both a cancelation text and an email by 11:00am the day of the rental.

Parking:##

  • Parking is NOT included in the price of the kayak rental! Parking is available at the city parking garages/parking lot for a fee.

What to Bring:

  • A water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat are good to bring along.
  • Dress for the weather.
  • You might be standing in a few inches of water to get in and out of the kayak so bring shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.
  • Kayaking is a water sport and you will get damp and your rear end a little wet. It is a good idea to bring a change of clothes. (leave your change of clothes and or towel in your vehicle)
  • Bring some type of waterproof bag to keep you keys and cellphone in.
  • There are NO lockers at this location so please plan accordingly.
