More ways to explore the area's outdoor wonders

Kennebunkport, Maine, a coastal town defined by rugged shorelines and serene waters, invites visitors to connect with nature from a unique vantage point aboard a kayak. Nonantum Resort offers kayak rentals that open an accessible gateway to the Kennebunk River and Harbor, where calm currents and scenic views cater perfectly to families and paddlers of all skill levels.

Paddling here is a chance to observe coastal Maine’s distinctive features: the mix of granite outcroppings, salt marshes dotted with cordgrass, and the occasional glide of harbor seals. The Kennebunk River’s gentle flow weaves through this landscape, revealing tucked-away inlets and classic New England waterfront architecture. Sunset trips in particular draw families eager to see the sky turn vivid shades of orange and pink, reflecting off the surface beneath them, crafting a quiet moment far from the bustle of the shore.

Nonantum Resort stands out not only for its prime location at 95 Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport but also for its commitment to providing easy, family-friendly outdoor adventures that blend relaxation with active engagement. Their kayak rentals offer the freedom to chart your own course—whether that’s a short 1-hour paddle or a leisurely few hours on the water—without needing extensive experience or equipment.

This low-impact adventure aligns with regional efforts to preserve coastal ecosystems. Visitors can soak in coastal history too; Kennebunkport has long been a fishing village and summer retreat since the 18th century, its maritime heritage still visible from the water. Whether launching solo or with loved ones, paddling here fosters connection—to the land, the water, and the rhythms of the tide—that stays with you long after you’ve pulled ashore.
