3 days (approx. 10–14 km day 1; 6–10 km day 2)
Good baseline fitness with ability to hike 4–6 hours at steady uphill pace; regular walkers will manage comfortably.
A three-day circuit from Kathmandu to Chisapani and Nagarkot trades city noise for pine-scented ridgelines and sunrise views over the high Himalaya. Expect full-day hikes over stone steps and village lanes, Tamang culture, and high-ridge vistas best seen at dawn.
On a cool pre-dawn, you leave Kathmandu's river of horns and prayer flags behind, trading traffic for the narrow ribbon of road that climbs toward Sundarijal. The city fades, replaced by pine-scented air and the tight chatter of birds. By midmorning the trail begins to steepen—stone steps and packed-earth switchbacks that pull you through oak groves and terraced farms. At Chisapani, the ridgeline opens and the mountains become literal: Annapurna, Manaslu and the ragged line of eastern Himalaya push into the sky, demanding a long, clear look.

Take it easy the first day—there’s nearly 900–1,000 m of gain from Sundarijal to Chisapani; drink water and move at a steady pace to reduce altitude discomfort.
Wear sturdy hiking boots with ankle support—trails are a mix of stone steps and muddy singletrack that get slippery after rain.
One porter per two guests is provided—pack only what you need in a daypack and leave bulky items with the lodge.
Set an early alarm for Nagarkot sunrise—mountain visibility is best before midday and after calm nights.
The Kathmandu Valley has been a trade and cultural crossroads for centuries; Bhaktapur on the route preserves medieval Newar architecture and ancient artisan traditions.
