Ride a super jeep from Jökulsárlón to the edge of Vatnajökull, then step into a naturally formed ice cave of deep blue halls and living ice. This compact, 2–3 hour winter experience pairs off‑road excitement with close-up glacier exploration.
You arrive at Jökulsárlón when the lagoon is doing what it does best: rearranging its furniture. Blue and white bergs drift lazily toward the ocean, their undersides scoured and glassy, a few cracking with a distant, hollow thud. Super jeeps squat at the east parking lot like mechanical pack animals. When the guide calls your name, the convoy rumbles off across glacial moraine, the road dissolving into wrinkled black sand and pumice as the glacier pushes itself across the land.

Jökulsárlón parking fills quickly—arrive at least 30 minutes early in peak season to find a spot and check in at the east lot.
Temperatures near the glacier can be several degrees colder with wind; a waterproof outer shell and insulating mid-layer are essential.
Bring stiff-soled hiking boots; you’ll cross packed snow, moraine and icy slabs—crampons provided but boots make them work properly.
