A wind-scoured ridge narrows beneath your boots as the unrepaired stones of Jiankou force careful, deliberate steps. The wall here rises like a fractured spine along jagged limestone ridges, towers tilting and gaps demanding short scrambles. Moving east, the route transitions—rough masonry gives way to the wide, restored terraces and watchtowers of Mutianyu, where fir-clad slopes and panoramic valleys reward the effort.
