The morning air out of Cartagena tastes of diesel and mangrove; by the time the road climbs into Montes de María the city’s noise feels like a distant drum. You step out where dry forest gives way to scrub and winding trails, the earth stubbled with bromeliads and the calls of birds that seem to measure your pace.
