Adventure tips

Pay the Marine Park Fee at DockHave USD $15 cash per person ready — it’s a mandatory marine reef tax collected at departure.

Use Reef-Safe SunscreenApply biodegradable sunscreen before boarding to protect coral and avoid skin irritation while swimming.

Bring Motion-Sickness MeasuresIf you’re prone to seasickness, take medication or use acupressure bands before boarding — choppiest seas are in the open channel.

Lock Up ValuablesLeave nonessential valuables at the hotel or in a locked bag; downtown Isla Mujeres is safe but docks can be busy.

Recommended gear

Reef-safe sunscreen: Protects skin and the coral ecosystems during long sun exposure on deck and in shallow water.
Swimsuit and quick-dry towel: Needed for snorkeling and beach time with a fast-drying option for the return trip.
Water shoes or reef sandals: Protect feet on rocky beaches and slippery docks; helpful for shallow reef entries.
Light rain shell or poncho: Compact protection against brief tropical showers common in shoulder seasons.
