You'll receive personalized kayak fitting and expert instruction, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience on the water. Perfect for first-time paddlers!

For first time paddlers and those who have never had any formal instruction. The aim of this class is to give you a good introduction in the knowledge and skills essential for safe and enjoyable paddling. We will fit you to the most suitable single kayak in relation to your height and weight. You will learn about: kayak equipment and what to wear, manoeuvring your kayak (forward, reverse, side ways, turning and steering) support strokes, sculling, edging, a short afternoons paddle, “wet-exits” and recovery from a capsize.
While paddling we will discuss clothing, weather, strokes and stability, self- and assisted-rescues .
Meet: The Kayak Shop and Training Centre - 37 Jetty Road Sandringham Allow time for car-parking - unless you have a Bayside City Council parking permit, parking is $18 or park across Beach Road (Arthur Street area) and walk back
Departure and Return Time: 9:00am - 4:30 PM approx. Arrive 8:30am to allow time for car parking and administration.
What to wear:Thermals, fleece, board shorts, footwear (can be old runners), light rain jacket (summer and winter), sun glasses with retainer and hat are a must! Wetsuits are a good idea in the colder months. Spare thermals & raincoat are useful when off the water.
During the course you will learn a lot about paddling clothing!
Included: Sea Kayak (enclosed kayak), Life Jacket (PFD), Paddle, Pump & bailer, Spray Jacket (weather dependant), Notes, Instructor
Dress in quick-drying, layered clothing suitable for water activities.
Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated during the session.
