Step into the small, hands-on world of metalwork at INTRODUCTION to Metal Jewelry Mini-class: 3 Ring Circus - Stacker Rings!, a four-hour beginner workshop in downtown Lafayette, Louisiana. Located at 303 Chance Street, Lafayette, LA 70506, this class condenses the essentials of jewelry making into a focused studio experience. You’ll learn to measure, shape, texture, solder, and polish copper, brass, and silver to produce three personalized stacker rings—no previous experience required.
The session is a practical mix of demonstration and tactile practice. Instructors walk you through measuring metal for ring size, forming bands on a mandrel, and preparing a clean butt joint for soldering. You’ll safely use a torch for basic soldering and learn to file, sand, texture, and polish each piece. A rotary tool—think Dremel or flex shaft—helps refine edges and add surface detail. The workbench becomes an immediate landscape of heated metal, quick decisions, and small, satisfying transformations.
What makes this class stand out in Lafayette’s creative scene is its speed and focus: you leave with three finished rings you made yourself in one afternoon. The choice of copper, brass, and silver gives a tactile lesson in metal behavior and color contrast; each material reacts differently to heat and finishing, teaching valuable techniques in one compact session. Small group size (limit six) ensures individual attention and a relaxed pace that encourages experimentation rather than precision stress.
The location places you a few steps from downtown’s cafes and galleries, so it’s easy to turn a single-class visit into a micro creative weekend—grab coffee before class and browse local art after. The hands-on nature of the studio offers a grounded counterpoint to outdoor adventures in the region: instead of miles, you’ll travel millimeters, learning to read heat, grain, and finish.
Practical details: the class runs approximately four hours and costs $115 per person; minimum age is 16. Bring your curiosity and closed-toe shoes; safety gear and tools are provided, and instructors will cover torch safety and proper techniques. Whether you’re shopping for a new hobby or looking to create a custom, wearable souvenir of Lafayette, this mini-class is an efficient, social, and craft-forward way to spend an afternoon. It’s ideal for curious travelers, DIY-minded visitors, and anyone who wants to make something they can wear and remember.
Reserve your spot in advance; small groups (maximum six) fill quickly, especially on weekends. Students keep the rings they make, and the studio provides basic tools, solder, and finishing supplies—bring any sentimental wire or small keepsakes if you want to incorporate them. No prior experience is required, but steady hands and curiosity help. This class makes a compact, memorable gift or an afternoon creative reset while you’re exploring Lafayette’s streets and food scene.
