Intimate Highland Cow and Mini Shetland Pony Photo Sessions at Bexland

Bexland's Mini Moments is a throwback to slow, close-up encounters with animals where craft matters as much as charm. Located in Doonan on Queensland's Sunshine Coast hinterland, the 30-minute session brings guests into quiet paddocks with Highland cows and Mini Shetland ponies, photographed by internationally awarded animal photographer Jennifer Chassagnol. Limited to six guests, each release is staggered and first offered to Friends of Bexland, so availability is rare. The scene is unglamorous in the best way: low, soft light across short grass, eucalyptus and subtropical scrub at the paddock edge, and the low, shaggy profiles of Highland cattle set against rolling coastal hills. The animals here are calm and used to gentle human presence; the session emphasizes stillness, respectful proximity, and composed portraiture rather than hurried selfie culture. That focus lets Chassagnol craft images that feel editorial but never staged - close portraits that pick out the curl of a fringe, the grain of fur, the patient gaze of a pony. What makes this more than a photo op is the marriage of craft and place. Bexland's operator curates each release so groups are intentionally small; the short duration keeps animals relaxed and guests focused. For photographers the value is technical: controlled natural light, short working distance that encourages shallow depth of field, and a patient guide in an environment where backgrounds are tidy and free of tourist clutter. For families it's the slow, safe way to meet animals - no feeding, no rodeo - just framed moments and prints you actually want to hang. There's also context here: Doonan sits on the traditional lands of the Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) people at the edge of the Noosa hinterland, where grazing paddocks meet patches of gum forest and subtropical growth. For visitors staying in nearby Noosa Heads, the experience is an easy detour from beaches and markets and a reminder of the hinterland's quieter pace. Practicalities are lean: 30 minutes, groups of up to six, English-language guide and photographer, and extremely limited release dates. Come prepared with a camera or phone, wear neutral colors and soft-soled shoes, and arrive ready to move slowly. Whether you want an editorial-quality portrait or a gentle, animal-forward family experience, Bexland's Mini Moments is an offbeat stop on the Sunshine Coast that privileges craft, calm, and animal welfare in equal measure. Bookings fill quickly, so prioritize early registration - especially for weekend slots. Expect gentle direction from staff, minimal posing, and opportunities to purchase high-quality digital files or prints after your session. If you travel from Brisbane, plan an hour for driving plus extra time for farm gates, parking, and a calm arrival to capture images to display and share as photographs.
