Sun hits the limestone rim and the canyon answers with a cool gust that pushes you toward the water. On day one you meet guides in Ahuacatlán de Guadalupe, kit up in 3mm neoprene and helmets, and practice rappelling and rope communication beneath the low clouds. By day two the canyon opens — narrow gorges, braided pools and waterfalls that demand controlled descent, jumps and short swims across turquoise basins.

Moderate to good aerobic fitness, comfortable with sustained hiking, swimming and exposure to heights
Guides supply 3mm neoprene suits, helmets, canyon harnesses, gloves, flotation vests and descent systems; bring your own footwear and layers.
A moderate to good level of fitness is required—expect multiple rappels, swims and up to five kilometers of canyon travel during the active day.
The meeting point is Ahuacatlán de Guadalupe in the Sierra Gorda; it’s roughly a three-hour drive from Querétaro city—public transport exists but plan logistics and arrive with cash.
Operators may cancel for heavy rain or unsafe river conditions; canceling at least 24 hours before departure is required for a full refund.
The Sierra Gorda has long been a corridor for Pame and Otomí communities and later colonial ranching; local villages retain traditional foods and crafts.
The canyon environment is sensitive—stick to established entry points, pack out waste, and follow guides’ instructions to avoid erosion and disturbance to aquatic habitats.
