You arrive at Ilala Lodge as the Zambezi sends its first thin veil of spray across the lawn and warthog and impala graze near the dining terrace. Through the evening hum you hear Mosi-oa-Tunya — the ‘‘Smoke that Thunders’’ — announcing itself from the basalt lip of the gorge. Ilala sits a short walk from the main viewpoints on the Zimbabwean side, offering direct access to the falls, river cruises and safaris without long transfers.
