You step out of the minivan and the valley breathes—dry wind lifting dust from the volcanic tuff, pigeons circling carved niches above. The day opens on a panoramic overlook of Göreme and its volcanic cones, then moves underground into cool, dim tunnels where whole communities once lived.

The guided walk covers about 3.5 km along the valley floor from the main gate to the lunch area and includes stops at cave churches and viewpoints.
The tour visits either Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu, both extensive multi-level subterranean settlements; the guide will choose one based on logistics that day.
Children who can walk moderate distances should be fine, but the underground city has narrow stairs and low ceilings, so it’s not recommended for those with serious mobility or spinal problems.
