Perched at the agricultural edge of Sant Rafel de Forca on Ibiza, BiBo Park (Ibiza Botanic Biotechnological Park) pairs a forward-thinking botanical collection with a compact, immersive planetarium—an unusual double bill that turns a day trip into a journey from island soils to star fields. The park’s terraces, dry-stone walls and curated habitats display the flora of the Pitiusas: endemic shrubs, aromatic garrigue, and rare Mediterranean succulents that thrive on limestone and marl. Inside the park you’ll find one of the visit’s signature curiosities — the world’s first Plant Piano — a playful installation that translates plant bioelectrical signals into notes during guided demonstrations.
Visitors can choose a self-guided wander with an audio-guide or join a live guided tour offered every 45 minutes in Spanish and English; other languages are available on request. Guides focus on the park’s conservation work, explaining how native species are propagated, how traditional agricultural terraces shaped the island’s biodiversity, and why these plants matter to local ecology. After a slow loop through fragrant alleys and sculpted sections, cap the visit with a roughly 20-minute planetarium session that shifts the mood from microscale physiology to the macro scale of the Mediterranean night sky.
Families and curious adults alike will appreciate the mix of hands-on learning and relaxed exploration. Paths are generally well graded but expect exposed sun on the terraces—shade is limited and the island sun is relentless in summer. Bring water, sun protection and comfortable shoes; children must remain with an adult at all times. Tickets may be purchased online (planetarium added separately) or at reception; local-resident and large-family discounts require presentation of documentation.
Why this place matters: National Geographic has highlighted the park’s innovative approach, and its combination of botanical research, public education and a unique sensory exhibit like the Plant Piano makes it more than a garden — it’s a teaching landscape. For photographers, late afternoon light picks out the textured stonework and aromatic plants; for learners, the short planetarium program puts Ibiza’s dark-sky context into perspective.
Plan a half-day to full-day visit, combine the park with nearby country roads for cycling, or stop at local agrotourism spots around Sant Rafel de Forca to deepen your sense of place. Whether you’re chasing endemic species or a quiet planetarium show, this pairing of earth and sky is a distinctive, family-friendly corner of Ibiza’s outdoor scene. Expect to spend two to five hours depending on how deeply you explore; guided tours run every 45 minutes and the planetarium program lasts about 20 minutes. The reception handles resident and large-family discounts; bring ID if eligible. Accessibility is mixed—paths are compacted but some slopes exist—contact the park ahead for details or special accommodations during busy summer months.
