You crest a final rocky shoulder and the lagoon opens like a held breath: a sheet of turquoise glass sitting beneath the gray mass of the Salkantay range. Wind pulls at your jacket; the water answers with fingertip ripples that dare you closer. The climb to Humantay Lagoon (approx. 4,300 m / 14,100 ft) is short and steep, so the view arrives suddenly—and insists you stop.
