The day begins at the Santa Cruz dock: salt air lifts off the shoreline and the boat slips past low cliffs and mangrove fingers, the engine a steady heartbeat beneath the horizon. As the captain threads between headlands you pass La Cara de Piedra and Roca Blanca — rock faces that have been carved by wind and wave — while pelicans ride the thermals and the water changes from teal to deep cobalt.
