No formal experience required, but you should have a moderate fitness level; guides teach the necessary strokes and safety procedures before launch.
Wear a swimsuit and quick-dry layers; the operator supplies a 5 mm wetsuit, neoprene jacket, life vest and helmet—bring river shoes or old trainers.
The Ubaye is alpine-fed and can be cold year-round; a wetsuit is essential to reduce risk, and operators limit exposure time in risky conditions.
Guides instruct on wet exits and re-entries; expect short swims followed by assisted re-entry or recovery by the guide’s boat when necessary.
