Experience the scenic beauty of Big Sky's Spanish Peaks on horseback. Our expansive two-hour trail ride will take you along the North Fork of the Gallatin and give you spectacular summit views of Lone Peak. You will get the chance to challenge your flora knowledge as you ride through the open meadows filled with colorful wildflowers, such as Indian Paintbrush and Lupines. You may even have the chance to see mule deer, elk, or a moose as you walk through the timber on your way back to the barn. Riders of all abilities are welcome. Please note that we cater the rides to the rider with the lowest ability.


What to Bring

  • Long pants.
  • Cowboy boots or boots with a heel and smooth sole are preferred, Cowboy boots are available to borrow in the Outpost
  • Long socks are recommended.
  • Helmets are required and provided for riders 17 and under. If you choose to wear a cowboy hat, a stampede string is required to secure hats from blowing away. Stampede strings are available for purchase in the outpost.purchase in the outpost.
  • Mountain weather has a mind of its own and changes quite often, so please bring a jacket.
  • Sunscreen is extremely important. Even if it is cloudy out, you are closer to the sun than you think, so please use sunscreen before you ride.
  • Using bug spray before you ride is also recommended.
  • Sunglasses
  • Saddle bags are available for phones and water bottles.
  • Please leave purses, backpacks, and fanny packs locked in your vehicle.
  • Please be sure to eat before you ride, and drink PLENTY of water. Remember that you are in a higher altitude and outdoors, so staying hydrated is VERY important! You may bring a water bottle on the ride.

Bring layers for changing weather

Weather can shift quickly in the mountains, so bring windproof and insulating layers to stay comfortable.

Wear sturdy boots with a heel

Proper footwear ensures safety and better grip in the saddle throughout the ride.

Hydrate before and after your ride

Though the ride is two hours, staying hydrated helps you feel your best throughout the adventure.

Arrive 15 minutes early for orientation

This allows time to meet your guide, get fitted for your horse, and cover safety basics.
