Hit the Bullseye: Open Axe Throwing at Laserguys in Blandford Forum

On the outskirts of Blandford Forum in Dorset, Open Axe Throwing at Laserguys Activities turns a basic bullseye into a social sport. Located at Laserguys Activities, Blandford Forum DT11 9HT, United Kingdomtt, this one-hour session is equal parts coaching clinic, party game and confidence builder. You arrive to a sheltered area of targets and timber backdrops, pick up an axe or spade, and get a short safety briefing from a dedicated instructor before stepping up to the line. The facility keeps things simple and focused: rows of wooden target boards anchored to shields of rough pine, a selection of axes and “throwers” suited to different grips and strengths, and a sheltered picnic area where groups can linger between rounds. That layout makes the experience accessible to beginners and fast enough to hold a friendly tournament. The core natural element here is timber—fresh-cut pine targets and the smell of wood—and a light, windswept Dorset sky if you choose an outdoor bay on fair days. Sessions are structured around approachable drills and playful challenges: accuracy rounds, distance throws, and relay games that keep energy high. In a compact 60-minute slot you’ll learn proper stance and release, try different axes, and run quick scoring games that are great for stag parties, corporate groups or families with kids aged 10 and up. The instructor-led format means safety comes first; all participants sign a waiver and get hands-on coaching rather than free-for-all practice. Practical details matter: check in 10–15 minutes early, bring sturdy shoes and comfortable clothing, and carry water—food and drink aren’t supplied. Laserguys provides all equipment and uses a sheltered picnic area for briefings and social time; free parking is available at the Blandford site but spaces are limited. Sessions run year-round and staff monitor weather for safety, so mild rain rarely cancels a booking. What makes Open Axe Throwing special for this part of Dorset is its playful contrast with the surrounding countryside: it’s an active, urban-adjacent outing that still feels outdoorsy because of the wood, fresh air, and simple, tactile tools. If you’re staying in Blandford Forum or passing through Dorset, this is an easy, memorable way to add a dash of competitive fun to an otherwise scenic itinerary. Whether you’re chasing a new skill, planning a group night out, or just curious about the sport, the one-hour session offers clear instruction, variety of throwers, and a social vibe that turns first-timers into repeat visitors. Bookings start from £21.00 per person, minimum age 10; arrive 10–15 minutes early at Laserguys Activities to check in, complete the waiver. The instructor supplies equipment, guides every throw, keeps groups moving—an affordable, efficient way for locals and visitors to spend an energetic hour outdoors together.
