- The Calera & Shelby Railroad operates on a portion of the former L&N Alabama Mineral Railroad, established in 1891.
- Take a nostalgic trip aboard restored vintage railroad coaches dating as far back as over a century ago!
- Ride behind a first generation diesel-electric locomotive as you travel through the relaxing woods of Shelby County.
Event Details
- All trains strive to depart from the Calera Depot promptly on schedule.
- Boarding will occur 15 minutes prior to each scheduled departure.
- After parking your vehicle, pick up your tickets from the red & yellow Depot's ticket window; explore the outdoor railroading displays; tour the Depot Museum; and utilize the restrooms located at the Giftshop.

- Snacks and drinks are available in the Giftshop.
- Food trucks/vendors occasionally visit our campus. You're welcome to picnic with us at the tables on the grounds!
- Please finish your refreshments before boarding the train.
Restrooms
- There are no working restrooms on our vintage railcars.
- Please use the restrooms located at the Gift Shop prior to boarding.
Shelby & Southern Railroad
- This narrow-gauge steam train - formerly the park train at the Birmingham Zoo - now operates on our campus!
- This second train ride experience is available throughout the day on most Saturdays for an additional ticket fee payable onsite only.
