Highlights

After meeting your professionally trained guide to the hotel reception, you will drive to Filerimos. The upper part of Filerimos is a large plateau and contains the ruins of several buildings including the foundations of a temple, an Early Christian basilica and a Byzantine church. In 1876, excavations brought to light the Hellenic temple of Athena Polias which was used as a spiritual place for the order of the nights of St. John. Later it was passed onto the Turks and then to the Italians. Remnants of this period can still be seen.

On top of the mountain there is a beautiful church which was destroyed under the Turkish occupation, and later rebuilt by the Italians who housed Capuchin Monks in it. After a guided tour of the site, enjoy some free time to explore or sit under a huge tree and enjoy the beautiful view. Next, you will continue with a drive along the seaside road of the city to the ancient Acropolis of Rhodes where the ruins of a stadium and the Temple of Apolonas, will be seen during a short description and photo opportunity.

You will then drive along the walls of the Old Town to reach thetop of the city at the Gate d'Amboise. From here, you will begin your walking tour of the Old Town. Upon entering the first thing you will see are the outer walls of the imposing Palace of the Grand Masters. In the shadows of the palace you will be given a short history of the Palace of the Knights before walking the main entrance to begin your internal visit of several of the palace's main rooms located on the second level. Returning back to the Street of the Knights which runs from in front of the palace down to the Knight's hospital, you will begin a walk down this charming cobblestone street as your guide points out the facades of what used to be the Inns of the Knights. Today, they are shops, private residences and even a small university. Your guide will point out the Knight's hospital, now a very interesting Archaeological Museum.

You will then be given some free time to explore on your own, find an ice cream or visit the archeological museum on your own. At the appointed time, you will meet your guide to walk to the nearby transportation for the short ride back to the pier. Those guests wishing to stay and enjoy more of the Old Town will be responsible for getting back to the pier on their own.
