Set sail on a unique historic voyage across Oyster Bay aboard the CHRISTEEN, one of the oldest operating wooden sloops in the United States. This theme cruise, the Rough Riders Reunion, blends maritime adventure with rich local history, offering travelers a one-of-a-kind experience along New York’s picturesque North Shore. Oyster Bay, a charming harbor town on Long Island’s north coast, serves as the perfect backdrop for this summer event that celebrates the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt and his famous Rough Riders regiment.

The voyage aboard the CHRISTEEN is more than just a boat ride; it’s a living history lesson. As you glide over the calm, sparkling waters of Oyster Bay, costumed reenactors bring Roosevelt’s Rough Riders to life, highlighting their bravery, camaraderie, and connection to this very region. This blend of storytelling and sailing makes for an immersive experience that appeals to history buffs and outdoor adventurers alike. The christened sloop itself is an icon in maritime circles—built in 1900, restored meticulously, and still sailing, it embodies a tangible link to Long Island’s nautical heritage.

What sets this cruise apart is its dedication to authenticity and community engagement. The Rough Riders Reunion ceremony on board revives a pivotal chapter of American history while encouraging visitors to appreciate the local landscape. Oyster Bay’s shoreline is dotted with historic estates and serene coves, framed by mature hardwoods and rolling hills, offering vibrant photo ops and a peaceful escape from urban life.

For those seeking an accessible outdoor adventure infused with culture, this cruise delivers. It’s a chance to unwind on the water, soak in fresh bay breezes, and listen to stories that shaped the nation, all in a convivial, family-friendly setting. The event usually runs during summer months when weather conditions are ideal for a smooth sailing experience and alfresco enjoyment.

Whether you stay in Oyster Bay or nearby towns just a short drive away, this outing adds depth to your Long Island trip by combining natural beauty with evocative storytelling. The CHRISTEEN’s Rough Riders Reunion Cruise is a standout option for travelers looking to connect with history on the water—and to witness a rare sailing vessel in action.
