Dating back to 1649, when it was a coaching house on the post road to South Wales. In 1822 & 1823 the coaches going to Gloucester & Hereford, left from The George, & in 1876 the Ledbury-Gloucester mail coach called at The George. In 1876 the Inland Revenue office was located here.
The George had a period of abandonment from the 1930’s to the 1960’s, when it was completely refurbished, the archway of the original stables still visible. During renovation works in 1969, 40 gold guineas & 4 half guineas were found beneath the hearth of the western fireplace in the lounge bar. They were offered to museums, including the British Museum, the finders then told that they could keep them.
The original landlord was Edward Draper, when it was taken over by his son Richard after his death. From 1885 it was even run by the same family until the 1930’s. Today it’s run by Dan Yeandle, taking over from his father Rhodri Yeandle.
Rooms 4 & 9 are the most haunted, beware of the spirit constantly watching you. The bar has an area known as Dead Man’s Corner. The restaurant has the man and his dog, who have been seen by numerous customers & staff. In the kitchen, staff have heard footsteps, felt someone walk up behind them when no-one’s been there, and items mysteriously fall off the sides. The alley to the car park, multiple orbs and apparitions have been caught on the CCTV.
We meet at 8pm to start the evening, we will have the whole run of the hotel. I’ll start the evening by telling you a little about the history. Then you can either go off and investigate on your own, or stay with the group. Experiments we will run are:
Human Pendulum Estes Scrying Chasing Ghosties Calling Out Table Tipping (using the tables within the building) Pendulum & pendulum boards.
If you have any of your own equipment, please do bring it. You will be able to buy a drink at the bar, we will also provide tea & coffee, snacks will also be provided. Please also wear sensible shoes, and bring a torch if you wish.
I hope you can join me and my team on this event.
