Mist hangs in the bowl of El Valle de Antón as you start up the trail toward the Sleeping Indian—humid air pressing at your face, moss clinging to roots, and a cascade daring you to stop and cool off. The first steep pitches arrive fast: switchbacks bite into volcanic slopes, and the forest tightens until only birdsong and the thud of your boots mark progress.
