With over 150 miles of hiking trails, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is an outdoor enthusiast's dream! This tour is not a tour of Volcanoes National Park, but just specifically a private guided hiking tour on the various different trails inside the Park. None-the-less, during this hiking tour, your expert naturalist guide will show and explain to you about all the different volcanic features, native plants and birds that we will see along the trails. While there are some trails that will take the entire six hour duration, another option is to combine a few different shorter trails. Included on this tour is a picnic style lunch that we will enjoy along or after our hike. Additionally, we can lead hikes into the backcountry areas of the Park. There are some awesome backcountry opportunities for long day hikes to pristine wilderness areas along the coastline and into some of the most untouched landscapes of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Hike the caldera floors of both Halema'uma'u and Kilauea Iki, walk through Thurston lava tube, and traverse through the lush native rainforest of this Kilauea summit explorer loop trail! This is a custom trail that our guides have developed to experience the main highlights of Volcanoes National Park on foot. From lush dense rainforest to feeling like you're walking on another planet this hike has it all!
Descend down past the 1959 eruptive site, Pu'upua'i, along the Devastation trail. Traverse the lush rainforest of Byron's ledge before finally descending into Kilauea Iki caldera. Explore the Kilauea Iki caldera floor before returning back.
Explore the lava landscape around the 1969-1974 eruptive site. This beautiful trail that will take us through various types of lava, native rainforest, and awesome volcanic features. If you would like to learn the most about the volcanic activities and features that have created the island, this trail will provide the best examples of those.
This hike takes you through all the different terrains in Hawaii Volcanoes National park. From barren lava fields to lush dense rainforest, the trail also traverse along an old planation where Hawaiian harvested Pulu, or the fuzzy protective layer, on our native Hapu'u Ferns. The trail can end at the largest Pit Crater inside the Park, Makaopuhi, or continue further into the forest to Napua.
Some of the shorter hikes that are available but limited to: Keanakakoi crater (1 mi), Kipukapuaulu bird trail (1 mi), Thurston lava tube (0.5mi), Pu'uloa petroglyphs (1.5mi)
Weather conditions can change quickly in the park, so bring layers to stay comfortable throughout your hike.
